Pre-Adoption Evaluations

Hands

I help loving parents who seek to adopt a child by conducting psychological evaluations that is required for the adoption process. These evaluations are conducted in order to provide an overview of the psychosocial functioning of potential adoptive parents.

Pre-adoptive psych evaluations generally center on interviews with the parents together and independently. Objective personality surveys conducted with paper and pencil may be used to supplement self-report data. These personality surveys measure various aspects such as depressed mood, anger functioning, and various other emotional styles of the parents.
In the report, your history of trying to become a parent is addressed including pre-adoptive stressors such as fertility issues; miscarriages and other losses; and relationship/marital history. Finally, the evaluator’s conclusion regarding you and your husband’s abilities in parenting an adoptive child will be offered.

I’ll support and help you through the stress of the evaluation process. You’re not expected to be free of anxiety, realistic fears, and concerns. We will focus on the road ahead in order to see your dream of having a child realized.
